About artist

About ten years ago, while I was convalescing, I started painting through an art therapy program. The wonder of creating images with color to express ideas and impressions stuck! Since then I’ve taken art classes and continued my journey as an aspiring artist. My supportive friends would ask to see my paintings so it made sense to host an art show to share my work with friends and family. The sharing event was awesome; principle of attraction, great people attract great people, and my path was clear. I wanted to continue sharing my excitement and learnings! Three art shows later, the next step seemed to be sharing my art pieces through a website.  Enjoy "Originals by Harriet" and let me know what you think!

My current interests have been in community service and non-profit donations.  I've gifted paintings for fund raisers to the American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts, and Junior League to name a few.

My earliest work focused on what I saw out my window, around our beautiful islands, and pictures in magazines. Then I started to expand to images from all over, internationally. I usually start with a photo that I find or take myself.

Travel, another of my passions, went hand in hand with painting to inspire ideas. You-tube tutorials were a great teaching resource to show me how established artists painted.

I expanded my style, working with the palette knife rather than just brushes. The paint goes on faster and thicker, allowing me to express myself in a whole different way. The knife can add paint or scraped off to subtract paint from the canvas giving it a dimensional quality. You’ll notice a 3D effect when the paint goes on really thick!  You-tube tutorials were a great teaching resource to show me how established artists painted.
